Download the free chart patterns PDF
It’s a straight free download, a 4-page share market chart patterns PDF sized for A4. For the longer explanation of each pattern, the chart patterns guide goes through all 20 with the same diagrams. If you want the single-candle signals too, the candlestick patterns PDF covers 40 of them the same way, and the rest of our free downloads are on the resources page.
Every page carries the SEBI disclaimer, because this is education, not a tip sheet.
Here’s the full list, grouped the way the sheet is. Each name links to the full explanation in the guide.
Reversal chart patterns (10): head and shoulders, inverse head and shoulders, double top (M pattern), double bottom (W pattern), triple top, triple bottom, rounding top, rounding bottom, rising wedge and falling wedge.
Continuation chart patterns (10): bull flag, bear flag, pennant, cup and handle, ascending triangle, descending triangle, symmetrical triangle, rectangle, ascending channel and descending channel.
These are the price action chart patterns most traders mean when they talk about reading the chart itself rather than indicators. For the indicators that sit alongside them, the technical analysis PDF puts RSI, MACD and moving averages on two pages; together the two make a complete technical analysis chart patterns PDF set.
It’s one of the most searched versions of this topic, so here’s the honest answer: no chart pattern is reliably the most profitable. Whether a trade makes money depends on where you enter, where you exit, how much you risk and what the market does next, and a pattern controls none of that. Lists that rank patterns by profit usually come from back-tests on past, often American, data, and they don’t carry over neatly to NSE stocks or to your own trades.
Patterns are one part of what technical analysis is, and none of it promises a profit. What you can do is favour patterns that give you something clear to check. The ones worth your attention have three things: a genuine trend before them, a well-defined line where the breakout happens, and a pickup in volume when it does. A head and shoulders with a clean neckline and a volume spike on the break tells you far more than a vague triangle drifting sideways. That’s also why reading volume on stocks is worth learning before you lean on any shape.
If you want depth, the standard reference is Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns by Thomas N. Bulkowski, published by Wiley. It goes pattern by pattern and measures how often each one worked on historical data, which makes it a useful reality check on the claims you’ll see online. Bear in mind that its statistics come from US stocks.
The free “encyclopedia of chart patterns PDF” copies circulating online are pirated scans: illegal, often malware-laced, and unfair to an author who spent years on the work. Buy the e-book, pick up the print edition or borrow it from a library. For free and legal reading in an Indian context, Zerodha Varsity’s technical analysis module covers chart patterns too, and our list of the best stock analysis books for India covers the wider shelf.
A sheet still leaves you checking every chart by eye. StockGenie’s technical analysis app reads the chart on any NSE stock, trend, levels, RSI, MACD and volume, in plain English or Hindi, free on Android. On Premium, its AI chart-pattern detection scans for patterns like these automatically and explains what each one is and isn’t saying. Like the PDF, it gives no buy or sell calls. It shows you the read and leaves the decision with you.
